President’s Message

Hello to all Yankee Yesteryear members and associates. This year seems to be moving very fast, August come and is almost gone but the fall season is almost here with the many great events that occur at this time of year. Please take the time to review Vice President/Tour Chairman Todd DeMaio’s list of upcoming events. The next three weeks will bring the Brooklyn and Woodstock Fairs and our big event, the club’s Annual Meet. Also, on September 26th Lynda Van Auken has scheduled one of her well planned Car Rallies. I look forward to this event and I urge all to participate. If you’ve never competed in one you missed a good time.

Joe & Norma Bellavance’s ice cream tour on August 17th was a very enjoyable ride through Plainfield, Sterling, Canterbury and Brooklyn ending at the Brooklyn Golf Course where we were served very tasty and generous portions of ice cream. Thanks to Joe and Norma for a nice evening and for keeping us guessing on our destination right up to the end.

Our monthly meeting held Tuesday August 24, 2010 at the Haul of Fame Museum had one of our best turnouts with 68 members in attendance. The majority of the discussions centered on the Annual Meet (this year September 12th). I hope, as in past years, that everyone who is able will attend and work the meet. This year, as in past years, judges and persons to tally the judging sheets are needed. Every club member can learn to judge and we have several knowledgeable individuals who are willing to show you how. Our goal is to speed up the judging process and to award the trophies in a timelier and orderly manner. This is our largest source of revenue and this show benefits all members. I expect that if you participate in the several club paid events during the year, you would contribute your time and effort to generate the means to pay for it. Please remember that help is also needed on Saturday (10am) for setup and after Sunday’s meet for takedown and cleanup. I’m very proud of the hard work expended by our volunteers throughout the year in addition to working the Annual Meet. They should be applauded for what they do as they are a valuable asset to the club. Also at this month’s meeting I had the great pleasure, along with those present, wishing happy birthday and good wishes to our valued long time member Art Chmura on his 90th birthday. He and Mary have been and continue to be dedicated club members. Even at their advanced ages, they continue to serve the club when needed. The younger members should take note of this and follow their example.

I’ve made my selection of a nominating committee for next year’s officers. They are Charlie Obrieter (Chairman), Paul Duval, Earl Hopkins, Uncle Ken Merrill and Gary Arcand. I selected these men because of their integrity and good judgment. I would hope that in the near future if asked by the committee, you consider serving as club officer. I fully understand when people have other obligations that take a tremendous amount of their time and therefore are unable to serve but, we have many members who have the time and are capable but choose not to take on the challenge. In the past five years, I’ve presided over 50+ meetings (missing none), many club events and the Christmas parties. All the while working full time, traveling an hour a day and attending to the needs of home and family. It is now time that I step down and someone else to assume the presidency. If asked to serve and you decline, count on me to personally ask you why.

In closing, I’m pleased to have the opportunity to serve you. Please feel free to call me at (860) 564-7887 or email at bobdumas57@sbcglobal.net if you have any ideas or concerns.

Respectfully Yours,

Bob Dumas
